10 Aug Giving Just Enough
We know that our God is almighty. He is faithful, loving, giving, compassionate, and so much more. The characteristics of God are anything but mediocre! As people of God we never expect less from Him; so why do we have the attitude of giving “just enough.” I will give just enough tithes, I will do just enough work in my career, I will give just enough in my relationships. Giving “just enough” may get you by, but it will also limit you.
Have you ever wondered why someone at your company advanced quickly, even though they were there for half the time you were; or maybe how someone’s walk with God is bearing more fruit than yours, even though they have only been a Christian for a small amount of time? It doesn’t have anything to do with how long they have been putting in the work; it has everything to do with how much heart they have put into their work. They gave more than enough in everything that they set out to do.
Prime example is the Israelites, and their ritualistic mediocre relationship with God. They continued to give sacrifices, but because their hearts were not in the right place God did not accept their offerings. God stated to them in Hosea 6:6 “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.” God wanted more than enough from them, He wanted their hearts.
Reframe from becoming ritualistic in your abilities, in your giving, and in your relationship with God. We expect more than enough from God, so let us set out to give Him more than enough. Let us give Him our whole hearts.
“The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b NIV
