19 Oct Missing Identity
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” –Romans 12:2
There are a lot of faceless people walking around this earth. They do not know who they are, so they would rather leave the responsibility for others to give them an identity. A man-made identity so they can fit in with the masses; allowing others to label them by their past and present sins, disabilities, diseases, social and career status, or physical attributes. As a result, determined to be mediocre and living the way others think they should live.
God did not create us to blend into the background; in fact, he created us to stand out among the masses. Too often we buy into the world’s view that individuality is not found through God, but that couldn’t be more wrong. God is the one who created us, and He is the one who has given us the abilities to do the things we do. Just look at how much variety there is in nature alone. There are so many species of plants and animals that man has not been able to explore all that God has created.
The lack of an identity can be the root as to why people lack self-esteem and confidence. It can even be the root cause as to why some people have a lack of trust in God. In Romans 12:2 it states that we must “not conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.” God wants nothing more than for us to know Him personally, and renewing our mind daily is one way of getting to know Him, so we can start to gain an understanding of who God created us to be.
The only kind of identity you will find in the world is enslavement to one’s sinful nature. No type of identity the world can offer will provide you with the freedom to be you, only God holds your individual freedom. Do not allow someone else to hold your identity. Do not allow them to have the power to determine who you are. Renew your mind daily and build your relationship with God, so that you may have an unshakable confidence in who God is and who He created you to be.
